About the Author
Joseph Gallian earned his PhD from Notre Dame. In addition to receiving numerous awards for his teaching and exposition, he served, first, as the Second Vice President, and, then, as the President of the MAA. He has served on 40 national committees, chairing ten of them. He has published over 100 articles and authored six books. Numerous articles about his work have appeared in the national news outlets, including the New York Times, the Washington Post, the Boston Globe, and Newsweek, among many others.

WASTE OF MONEY!

I purchased this product along with the text book because I thought I would need the extra help with the homework problems. COMPLETE waste of my money because EVERYTHING- I mean everything- in this book is located in the back of the text book. There's no new information, no help with any of the problems, or any additional supplementary information to the book. It is way overpriced and a very clear rip off.

This is the exact same thing as the selected answers in the back of the book. There are no even number problem answers, nor is there any step-by-step solutions. DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY

Well worth the money

I criticism of the text under the review "WASTE OF MONEY!" by Jodi is misleading and partially incorrect, although I can understand why someone would write such a review. If you only look at chapter zero and chapter one, you'd be correct for thinking you've been ripped-off.
The solutions do appear to be identical, but after chapter one you start to notice a divergence between the solutions in the back of the text and those in this solutions manual. The text solutions continue to be short, sometimes just a number or a hint such as to mimic a theorem, whereas the solutions manual gives a more detailed answer.
For example, the text gives the answer six to exercise 29.01, and the solutions manual gives a 10 sentence explanation. Some answers continue to be the same, but that appears to be for the easier ones. I could be wrong, as I have not yet worked through the text. I find the solutions manual to be well worth the $20 I spent for a very-good used copy. Perhaps I'll change my mind later, but it does appear to be a good investment.

Having used the manual for several months now, I feel that although it is better than just the back of the text, both suffer from too often given scant solutions.
A cheap used copy is worth the money, but don't pay full price. This goes for the text also.
