About the Author
Craig A. Lockard is Ben and Joyce Rosenberg Professor of History in the Social Change and Development Department at the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay, where since 1975 he has taught courses on Asian, African, comparative, and world history. He has also taught at SUNY-Buffalo, SUNY-Stony Brook, and the University of Bridgeport, and twice served as a Fulbright-Hays professor at the University of Malaya in Malaysia. After undergraduate studies in Austria, Hong Kong, and the University of Redlands, he earned an M.A. in Asian Studies at the University of Hawaii and a Ph.D. in Comparative World and Southeast Asian History at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. His published books, articles, essays, and reviews range over a wide spectrum of topics: world history; Southeast Asian history, politics, and society; Asian emigration; the Vietnam War; and folk, popular, and world music. Among his major books are Lands of Green, Waters of Blue: Southeast Asia in World History (forthcoming); Dance of Life: Popular Music and Politics in Modern Southeast Asia (1998); and From Kampung to City: A Social History of Kuching, Malaysia, 1820-1970 (1987). He was also part of the task force that prepared revisions to the U.S. National Standards in World History (1996). Professor Lockard has served on various editorial advisory boards, including the Journal of World History and The History Teacher, and as book review editor for the Journal of Asian Studies and the World History Bulletin. He was one of the founders of the World History Association and served as the organization's first secretary. He has lived and traveled widely in Asia, Africa, and Europe.

By the time Cynda figures out that Victor is a vampire and the murderer of the ghostly girl, she is well on the way to becoming a ghost herself, as is Todd. How Cynda overcomes her thralldom makes for a deliciously spine-tingling story-all the more gripping for its sturdy psychological underpinnings. Ages 11-up.

ridiculous.

I really hate writing negative reviews. REALLY. However, I would hate for anyone who was looking for something other than a sappy, child's story to waste their money on this. I can't believe this book is in the same genre as Twilight, the Gemma Doyle Trilogy, the Blue Blood saga, and so on. The main character, Cynda, a sixteen-year-old girl, far from her mother, was completely unlikeable from the start, always whining and complaining, therefore it was near impossible to feel sorry for her when she became entranced by an evil vampire. She was just simply a
BRAT, as well as "Toddy" her younger brother. Her parents were total idiots, even before Vincent-the vampire staying in their inn, seducing their children-put them under a spell. The only likeable character was the housekeeper's grandson, Will. And I almost didn't like him, simply because he was able to like Cynda and her stupid family. I can't believe I wasted my day reading this.

Gr 6-10-Intensity, frigid cold, a girl coming of age, and an independent-minded husky-wolf mix dominate Scott O'Dell's story (Houghton Mifflin, 1988) of the Iditarod's 1200 mile arctic race. In the beginning, Bright Dawn's father is asked to run the Iditarod. He previously suffered an injury to both his body and his soul from an encounter with the arctic's devastating terrain, and yearns to redeem himself. He pours his heart and soul into training. But an accident leaves him injured and unable to participate, so his daughter steps in to take his place. She chooses Black Star to lead the team, a dog who her father distrusts. An experienced runner Bright Dawn at the start of the race, offering wisdom and Eskimo folklore along the way. The adventure that follows is full of peril and emotional twists. Bright Dawn brings depth to the character of a female protagonist. Black Star makes an intriguing lead dog, but his story is not fully explored. Jessica Almasy's mesmerizing voices for all the characters will hook listeners to the end. About the Author
Andrew J. DuBrin is Professor Emeritus of Management in the E. Philip Saunders College of Business at the Rochester Institute of Technology, where he served as department chairman and team leader. Dr. DuBrin has taught courses and conducted research in leadership, management, organizational behavior, and career management. He presents at other colleges, career schools, and universities. He received his Ph.D. in Industrial Psychology from Michigan State University. Dr. DuBrin has experience in human resource management and is a business and personal consultant in career management, leadership, and management development. Dr. DuBrin is an established author of both textbooks and trade books, and he contributes to professional journals, magazines, newspapers, and online media. He has written textbooks on management, leadership, organizational behavior, human relations, political behavior in organizations, and impression management. His trade books address management issues from charisma, team play, and office politics to overcoming career self-sabotage, and coaching and mentoring.

The Book is not well made

This is a good text book that unfortunately has a problem with the way it is made. After the first couple of weeks the book started to separate and the glue job appears to be substandard.

I take care of my books (sell some back, keep the others) I would have liked to keep this one but the publisher did a lousy job.

I wrote the publisher with my complaints and they have not bothered to respond.

Dont buy this book unless you have to.

Kindle Edition - Missing Resources

I'll keep this short and simple as possible.

The content of this book is good. It's been a pleasant surprise to read through compared to other management and leadership textbooks that I've used in my degree program. The self-assessment exercises are good, and have raised my awareness of how I go about managing and leading. I think that's the point of the book, right?

The thing I don't like about this electronic addition is that almost every chapter has a page which reads "Text not available due to copyright restrictions". This is a great example of what is wrong with the textbook publishing industry here in the United States. Forget the fact that I paid $150 for the electronic version while the textbook publishers incurred zero extra expenses in preparing, printing, shipping and selling me the book. My problem is that I'm purchasing a copyrighted work from a publisher who cannot acquire the rights to all the materials they're indeed trying to print within this book. I suppose it would be too much to expect Cengage Publishing to take a little less icing on top of their cake and purchase the rights to reproduce and sell a complete product. It's a complete joke.

Missing Cases

I purchased this as a digital book for my Kindle for PC. I thought it would be less expensive and easier to carry around than the hardcopy. Little did I know that some of the Cases in the book are not available due to copyright issues. This is a big issue for me because I had to use the book for a class and the case we were to analyze was not available for me read. When I purchase a book I expect all the content.

About the Author
Dr. Kathleen Hartman is currently a Professor in the Department of Advisement at Kutztown University and is a faculty advisor in the Advising Center for Undeclared students, where she has also developed and taught first-year seminar courses and a portfolio seminar for non-traditional students seeking credit for life experience. She also develops programming specifically for undecided students. She holds a doctorate from Lehigh University in Bethlehem, PA. Her research includes college transition, student retention, and success strategies. She received the 2007 NACADA (National Academic Advising Association) National Outstanding Advising Certificate of Merit in Advising, Primary Role Category and the 2007 NACADA Region 2 Outstanding Academic Advisor Award in Advising, Primary Role Category. She has written several articles and has presented at numerous regional, national and international conferences.

Dr. Thomas Stewart is an Assistant Professor of Academic Advising at Kutztown University. He serves as an advisor to a caseload of 125 undeclared students and is the Director of the Developmental Summer Program where students take courses in developmental Math, English, and College Success. He is the Liaison to Student Support Service and Upward Bound Programs. Prior to this role, Dr. Stewart was the Department Chair of the Department of Development Studies from 1998-2002. He has a Ph.D. in Curriculum and Instruction, Language and Literacy Education from The Pennsylvania State University, and an MA in English from Shippensburg University of Pennsylvania. He has published numerous articles and made several presentations at national conferences.

About the Author
Donald L. Niewyk is professor of history at Southern Methodist University. He received his Ph.D. from Tulane University in 1968. He specializes in modern European history. His research centers around Germany between the two World Wars, and his teaching interests range broadly from political to cultural and social history since the Enlightenment. He is the author of three books: Socialist, Anti-Semite, and Jew; The Jews in Weimar Germany; and The Holocaust: Problems and Perspectives of Interpretation. He is also an editor of The Columbia Guide to the Holocaust. He is currently preparing a study of Holocaust survivors.

An excellent book from an excellent teacher!

I had the honor of being in being in Donald Niewyk's class on the holocaust the first time it was offered at SMU. This was one of our textbooks. Donald Niewyk is a wonderful voice in holocaust studies. I hope to see more people pick up his work. He has much to offer. I love reading his books and know that if I had the chance I would take his class again. I will be content to read his books!

I had to read this book for a holocaust history course at my university and I was absolutely enthralled with it! this book is a great comprehensive compilation of essays, divided into appropriate sections and categories. A great read that can easily be re-read over and over!

About the Author
Mary Beth Norton, the Mary Donlon Alger Professor of American History at Cornell University, received her B.A. from the University of Michigan and her Ph.D. from Harvard University. She teaches courses in the history of exploration, early America, women's history, Atlantic world, and American Revolution. Her many books have won prizes from the Society of American Historians, Berkshire Conference of Women Historians, and English-Speaking Union. Her book, FOUNDING MOTHERS & FATHERS (1996), was a finalist for the Pulitzer Prize. In 2011 her book SEPARATED BY THEIR SEX: WOMEN IN PUBLIC AND PRIVATE IN THE COLONIAL ATLANTIC WORLD was published. She was Pitt Professor of American History at the University of Cambridge in 2005-2006. The Rockefeller Foundation, Guggenheim Foundation, and Huntington Library, among others, have awarded her fellowships. Professor Norton has served on the National Council for the Humanities and is an elected member of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences. She has appeared on Book TV, the History and Discovery Channels, PBS, and NBC as a commentator on Early American history.

Carol Sheriff received her B.A. from Wesleyan University and her Ph.D. from Yale University. She has taught at the College of William and Mary since 1993, where she has won the Thomas Jefferson Teaching Award, the Alumni Teaching Fellowship Award, and the University Professorship for Teaching Excellence. Carol teaches the U.S. history survey as well as classes on the Early Republic, the Civil War Era, and the American West. Her publications include THE ARTIFICIAL RIVER: THE ERIE CANAL AND THE PARADOX OF PROGRESS (1996), which won the Dixon Ryan Fox Award from the New York State Historical Association and the Award for Excellence in Research from the New York State Archives, and A PEOPLE AT WAR: CIVILIANS AND SOLDIERS IN AMERICA'S CIVIL WAR, 1854-1877 (with Scott Reynolds Nelson, 2007). Carol has written sections of a teaching manual for the New York State history curriculum, given presentations at Teaching American History grant projects, appeared in the History Channel's Modern Marvels show on the Erie Canal, and is engaged in several public history projects marking the sesquicentennial of the Civil War.

David W. Blight received his B.A. from Michigan State University and his Ph.D. from the University of Wisconsin. He is Class of 1954 Professor of American History and director of the Gilder Lehrman Center for the Study of Slavery, Resistance, and Abolition at Yale University. He has written FREDERICK DOUGLASS'S CIVIL WAR (1989) and RACE AND REUNION: THE CIVIL WAR IN AMERICAN MEMORY, 1863-1915 (2001), which received eight awards, including the Bancroft Prize, the Frederick Douglass Prize, the Abraham Lincoln Prize, and four prizes awarded by the Organization of American Historians. His most recent book, A SLAVE NO MORE: THE EMANCIPATION OF JOHN WASHINGTON AND WALLACE TURNAGE (2007), won three prizes. He has edited or co-edited six other books, and his essays have appeared in numerous journals. In 1992-1993 he was senior Fulbright Professor in American Studies at the University of Munich, Germany, and in 2006-2007 he held a fellowship at the Dorothy and Lewis B. Cullman Center, New York Public Library. A consultant to several documentary films, David appeared in the 1998 PBS series, Africans in America and has served on the Council of the American Historical Association.

Howard P. Chudacoff, the George L. Littlefield Professor of American History and Professor of Urban Studies at Brown University, was born in Omaha, Nebraska. He earned his A.B. (1965) and Ph.D. (1969) from the University of Chicago. He has written MOBILE AMERICANS (1972), HOW OLD ARE YOU (1989), THE AGE OF THE BACHELOR (1999), THE EVOLUTION OF AMERICAN URBAN SOCIETY (with Judith Smith, 2004), and CHILDREN AT PLAY: AN AMERICAN HISTORY (2007). He has also co-edited, with Peter Baldwin, MAJOR PROBLEMS IN AMERICAN URBAN HISTORY (2004). His articles have appeared in such journals as the JOURNAL OF FAMILY HISTORY, REVIEWS IN AMERICAN HISTORY, and JOURNAL OF AMERICAN HISTORY. At Brown University, Howard has co-chaired the American Civilization Program, chaired the Department of History, and serves as Brown's faculty representative to the NCAA. He has also served on the board of directors of the Urban History Association. The National Endowment for the Humanities, Ford Foundation, and Rockefeller Foundation have given him awards to advance his scholarship.
