Containing star charts, a guide to the constellations, and details about seasons and the movement of the objects we see in the sky, this classic book makes H. A. Rey’s passion for astronomy evident on every page.
Second edition updates concentrate on the planetary and solar system information in the latter part of the book. Facts and figures for each planet have been revised, and new scientific information has been added, such as Pluto’s reclassification as a dwarf planet.

From School Library Journal
Grade 4–6—This much-needed update of Rey's classic work (Houghton, 1976) features a cleaner typeface but retains the layout and most of the graphics of the previous edition. Some images, such as the picture of a spaceship, are dated but maintain, along with the small elves who guide readers through the book, all of the original charm. The primary update, featured on the cover, involves the change in Pluto's status; a great touch is the inclusion of definitions for "planet" and "dwarf planet" to help readers understand exactly why there are now only eight planets in our solar system. Statistical data, particularly for sizes and distances between the Sun and the planets, are updated; the planet finder now covers the years 2007 through 2016; and there is a new list of books for further reading. With its enduring appeal, current information, and exceptional sky charts to help find constellations, stars, and planets, this revision should be an essential purchase for all libraries.—Jeffrey A. Review
"A 'must' for public and school libraries and a wonderful book for an individual or family to own."

About the Author
Hans Augusto Rey was born in Hamburg, Germany in 1898. As a child, he spent much of his free time in that city's famous Hagenbeck Zoo drawing animals. After serving in the army during World War I, he studied philology and natural science at the University of Hamburg. He then married Margret Rey and they moved to Montmartre for four years. The manuscript for the first Curious George books was one of the few items the Reys carried with them on their bicycles when they escaped from Paris in 1940. Eventually, they made their way to the United States, and Curious George was published in 1941. Curious George has been published in many languages, including French, German, Japanese, Afrikaans, and Norwegian. Additional Curious George books followed, as well as such other favorites as CECILY G. AND THE NINE MONKEYS and FIND THE CONSTELLATIONS.

The Best Resource for Observing the Night Sky
By Stargazer
Now considered a classic, this is simply the best book ever written and illustrated for observing the night sky. H.A. Rey, who enriched the world with his Curious George books, was an avid amateur astronomer frustrated with the complexity of books on astronomy and stargazing. So, he wrote and illustrated this wonderful book to help excite and educate kids of all ages. I've used "Find the Constellations" to teach the constellations to my children, my grand children, more than 2,000 public school students, and countless scouts (boys and girls) for more than 30 years now. The illustrations are beautiful and easy to apply to real observing under the night sky; the writing is fun and entertaining; and, the stories are interesting and help us remember the key constellations. This book enchants as well as educates. Every school library, regardless of grade levels, should have this updated version. I highly encourage it for every home library as well. And, it is the best resource available for the Boy Scout Astronomy Merit Badge.

Great Constellation Primer!
By Arcturus70
Find the Constellations is an absolutely joy to read and study. Rey totally gives modern folk, young and old, a challenge in his opening comments: "Simple shepherds 5000 years ago were familiar with the heavens; they knew the stars and constellations--and they could not read or write---so why don't you?" (Page 3) I agree, and I wonder if we have lost something--as a species, for all our technology, in not observing and questioning the night sky.

This book would be an appropriate product for family time and weekend time--sharing and learning together. The illustrations are easy to grasp, and the fonts are big, easily read even for eye glass wearers. Two chatty little characters appear on select pages to add humor, additional information, and / or emphasis to given material.

My favorite sections in the book:

Star Magnitudes & Examples
Orion & His Stars
Light-Years, Explanation & Examples
Constellation Quizzes
Seasonal Sky Views
Polaris, the North Star
Andromeda
Planet Finder for 2006-2016

NOTE: This book makes a great companion to H.A. Rey's "The Stars: A New Way to See Them."

**People who want more "hardcore" science and meatier cosmology will not be satisfied with this simple book. Not surprising: The target audience of Find the Constellations is for children, young people, and new casual star gazers. :)

Great for adults too
By Charles Johnson
I've always wanted to be able to recognize the constellations, but never took the time to wander through complicated star charts. As an adult I have even less time than I did as a kid, but just reading through Rey's book a few times and sitting in the backyard a few minutes a night makes it easy.
Tiny little nuggets of information, like "the dipper is like a saddle!" make things so much easier to recognize.
I recomend this book for any adult (or kid) who's interested in learning the constellations, but doesn't necessarily want to recognize galaxies, or specific stars etc...
